Preserving and enhancing the ocean ecosystems
We recognise the importance of conserving our oceans. They play a vital role in climate regulation and are home to rich biodiversity, but are threatened by pollution and overfishing. And we can’t let that happen. That’s why we strengthen projects that work to conserve and protect the oceans, an essential source of life for our planet. Marine restoration and marine pollution are our 2 focus areas within our Ocean pillar.

Why we focus on preserving the oceans
Healthy oceans are vital for the well-being of our planet. They regulate the global climate system by absorbing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and producing oxygen, thereby supporting biodiversity and providing habitats for marine life. Beyond their ecological benefits, oceans are fundamental to human livelihoods, supporting industries such as fishing and coastal tourism, and providing a critical source of protein for billions of people worldwide.
And the oceans need our help. If we don't protect and restore our oceans now, we risk irreversible damage from pollution, overexploitation, and habitat destruction. Our foundation is committed to reversing this trend by restoring degraded marine ecosystems, combating plastic and chemical pollution, and championing sustainable practices that allow marine life to thrive once again.

How we support ocean-focused projects
By providing funding and expertise, we help scale promising solutions that protect our oceans through marine conservation and sustainability initiatives.
Our two ocean pillars are marine biodiversity restoration and marine pollution.
